San Angelo Stump Grinding Services

After a tree is removed, property owners in San Angelo, TX are often left with a common question: “What should I do about the stump?”

Gone are the days when people would attach a chain to their pickup truck’s bumper and the stump and attempt to pull it out. Not only is that impractical, and unsafe, it usually leads to vehicle damage without removing the stubborn stump.

Folks also try other ineffective techniques other than tree grinding, including chopping them up with an ax, burning them, and drilling holes in them and using salt, or spraying chemicals. However, here at Thornton’s Tree Service, we offer a quick and easy solution. With our fleet of 5 stump grinders in different sizes, we can efficiently remove any unwanted stumps, leaving your property clean and tidy in no time. We also do tree removal, tree pruning, and land clearing.

The San Angelo service team at Thornton’s Tree Service will grind the stump to your desired depth, taking into consideration the future plans for your site. They had years of experience and have ground thousands of stumps across the area.

How do you remove stumps?

We are often asked what the procedure is for removing a stump. In a nutshell, we use stump grinders. A stump grinder is a large piece of equipment with a 12-18″ diameter wheel with teeth on it. It spins at a high rate of speed and essentially takes small bites out of the stump. The cutter head swings back and forth until the residual stump is approximately 6-8″ below ground. Once the stump is ground up we clean up the excess chips. There will always be a small layer of chips over the stump that will shrink and degrade over time. At any point thereafter you can then add some topsoil and plant grass seed or lay sod to ensure the area where the tree was located blends in with its surroundings.

How Much Does Tree Stump Grinding Cost in San Angelo?

That’s a good question and the cost will vary depending on the number of stumps and if any other tree services are needed.

Very often, smaller tree service companies without the proper equipment will attempt to remove the “core” tree but don’t have the resources or tools to effectively grind the stump to the proper depth. The end result? Home and business owners who aren’t happy. They see an eye sore that, given its size and location, can even be hazardous to your family or customers. We like to have happy customers!

With our high-end professional stump grinders and tree cutters (including our heavy duty cranes) Thornton’s Tree Service can quickly, safely, and easily remove trees and tree stumps the same day. We own all of our own equipment which means no waiting weeks for a stump grinder rental to become available. We have the right-sized stump grinder for every job. Some are small enough to fit through a standard fence gate. The cost will depend on your specific needs and the specs of the stump or stumps. Like people, every tree is different!
